It was a humid and rainy summer day in New York City, but the showers did not dampen the spirits the five finalists of our Campfire Classic. The contestants gathered early at the Boat Basin in Riverside Park to cook up some delectable treats for me and the other two judges, Chef Bob Blumer from the Food Network’s Glutton for Punishment and Seth Levy from the American Hiking Society.
In the end it was Melissa Mullins from New York who won the $10,000 prize and the title of America’s Best Campfire Chef for her Blackberry Handpies with Jar Whipped Lavender Cream paired with Redwood Creek Pinot Noir. With her win, Melissa also received a $5000 donation to the National Park of her choice. Melissa chose to donate her winnings to the Appalachian Trail.
Also incredible was Lisa William’s recipe, Swordfish Turtle Packs a la Roux paired with Redwood Creek Pinot Grigio which took home the people’s choice award earning her a $1000 prize. All of the dishes were fantastic, but I’ll let you be the judge. You can visit our website www.redwoodcreek.com/campfire and download all of the recipes to try at home or at your next campfire. Bon Campetit!
