On the trail...

Vote for the (first ever!) Consumer Choice Poster

Dec 3, 2008

postertrio_originalFor months we've been asking YOU what the next Redwood Creek Vintage Print should be. Over 2,000 of you have shared your amazing ideas.

The Redwood Creek team read through each and every idea (so many great ones, so hard to choose!) and have narrowed down to our three finalists for the first ever, Consumer Choice Poster!

The winning poster will be printed and distributed with the other Vintage Prints. We had artist Jeff Foster do pencil sketches of the three ideas so you could see what the winner could look like. He'll do a full fledged design of the winning poster and give a signed version to the member with the winning poster design.

This is where you come in. We need your help in choosing the winner, so please take a few minutes, review the three finalists and then cast your vote by clicking here!

Without further ado, take a look at the three finalists here. You can click on any image to see a large scale version of the image.

floatpanecrop_originalFloat Plane. Inspired by member KimMcBean from West Bloomfield, MI who wrote: "I picture a lake surrounded by pines with a 50’s style float plane with a couple of fishermen inside in flannel coming to this remote spot."

moosecrop_originalMoose. Inspired by member Baby_Shrew from Mt. Pleasant, MI, who wrote: " I suggested this quite some time ago an sure it’s not the first you’ve heard of it but…I still think a moose lifting his head up from the water would be cool. Stuff hanging from his antlers and his beard dripping wet. Lol. What could be more refreshing?"

wildflowerscrop_originalWildflowers. Inspired by member minnick from Cedaredge, CO, who wrote: "Maybe you could consider doing a wildflower scene. You could picture a meadow full of wildflowers with mountain peaks in the background and your trademark bottle of wine in the corner."

Keep submitting your Vintage Print ideas. You never know, your idea might become a Redwood Creek Vintage Print someday.

Don't forget to leave a comment and let me know which poster is your favorite below.

I can't wait to find out which poster you think should be crowned the first ever RedwoodConsumer Choice Vintage Print!

The plane print is the most vintage but the wildflowers could be the most colorful and eye catching.

All three are fabulous and you should print them. My favorite is the wildflowers. I would make a slight change...have 2 people hiking. Nothing finer than a field of wildflowers overlooking the water and the promise of 2 people sharing the scene and a bottle of redwood creek wine.

Even though trying to choose just one is hard, each has its own merits. That float plane gets my vote though, simply because it It reminds me of Adirondack lakes and picnics on the mountains as a young adult, when I could drink wine and nap in the grass and not have to worry about my job, my children or the responsibilities of a mortgage, high gas prices and skyrocketing grocery costs.

Thank you for your comment and your opinion. Your honesty is much appreciated! +50 corks

I hate to rain on your parade, but I'd choose none of them. I've lived in redwood country (Sonoma County and Santa Cruz), so I know what it's really like. There are no moose in redwood country or even in the Sierra Nevada. The float plane is a possibility, but having been backpacking (with wine, natch) in the redwoods, I'd have seen it as a noisy, smelly intrusion. The wildflowers (they look like wild sunflowers) are nice but not appropriate - lupines or rhododendrons would be better. Sunflowers do not grow in redwood country - it's too damp and shady.

Why not choose wildlife or plants that actually exist in the redwoods, like mule deer, Steller's jays, raccoons; or ferns, trilliums, redwood violets? How about a waterfall like those in Big Basin? How about people tubing down the Russian River? How about banana slugs? The feeling you get when standing in a grove of redwoods that tower hundreds of feet over your head?

My favorite Redwood Creek poster is the one with the two campers by a campfire watching a shooting star. I'm looking at it right now. It really evokes the feeling of camping in the redwoods.

Stay true to yourself and your brand. There are millions of people in the world who have never seen the redwoods and their beauty. You should show them, not borrow images from elsewhere.

  • posted Dec 6, 2008 by muzzie image muzzie |

I'm sure the posters will look very different in final form with colors etc...  but I have to say that the plane is much too large and in your face to even enjoy the background of the peaceful(?) setting the redwood country implies.  The same with the moose, too large and not peaceful.  Neither poster entices me to want to "be there."  The wildflowers will probably be the most peaceful and enticing of the scenarios, however, I don't believe those particular flowers are appropriate for that region.  Perhaps indigenous wildflowers on the outskirts of entering the Redwood forest with mountainous region offside? This shot reminds me of the Swiss and Austrian Alps.  And I agree with an earlier comment I read - let's get two people hiking with their little wine pouch slung over a shoulder.

Thanks for asking our opinion on these. Foot in mouthI hope the artist doesn’t take all this criticism to heart.  This is an entertaining website and I look forward to being a part of the community!

They're all cool! On the moose one -  I like the Type tucked in between the "R and the C" but it doesn't read as "roam" - only "oam" but its a great place for the text if you re-worded it. The Plane or the Moose are best - very dramatic and go with the rest of the posters in the series. Love, love, love the original poster  with the redwoods - - and Jeff Foster - you are a great illustrator/designer!!

Disclaimer: My dining room is decorated in light yellow and I have an original watercolor painting of sunflowers, so that poster would "match" my decor!

And being from Maine, I see too many "moose" inspired pictures, but that poster would be nice for a cozy camp theme.

Yikes!  What a difficult choice.  I really love (and want) them all!  Without seeing the finished version in color, it's hard to determine my ultimate favorite.  I wanted to vote for the moose, but decided the layout is too symmetrical and the moose is too centered to have the motion the content warrants. The wildflowers are appealing and nicely designed, but they don't seem to have as much visual "pull" as the plane, which is the most compelling of the three, but does not quite steal my vote from the moose, which would have my vote except for the competition from the plane and the wildflowers . . . can't someone pull me from this endless loop and let them ALL win??

I agree--they are all great posters.  Maybe you could make everyone happy by moving the float plane to the background, having the moose below it in the lake, the wildflowers in the foreground and a couple hiking off to the side.  No--I think that would be too much--just print all 3 and we will all be happy.

Alll three should definately be printed, as they are each great. If you can't do that, have the artist do a close up of the moose in a field eating wildflowers, with the float plane flying in the background, you could give credit to all three who recommended the original shots.

I think that all 3 are wonderful but the moose is special to me because it is a nickname for some family members! I do agree that the flowers on the one print should be lupines, rhododendrons, trilliums etc.  Each poster has its own niche in the vintage poster gallery of transportation, pure untouched nature and participation in the beauty of nature. Wonderful ideas and terrific illustrations. I'd love to have them all!

I love all three but I ended up choosing the Float Plane because I think it most captures the Redwood Creek style and Spirit.

All three pull at my nostalgic heart strings but to choose one I would have to go with the wildflowers. That scene is parallel with the "happy place" in my mind that I go to for peace and solitude as I lay my head on my pillow at the end of a stressful day.

I like them all too, especially the moose, but the Wildflower one wins out in the end. I'd like to see the color version, of course. Thanks!

I voted for the wildflower. To me it is relaxing to sit outside and enjoy nature and have a glass of wine.

Wildflowers is my favorite too. I just think it is going to be amazing once the color is added!

I loved them all & it was especially hard to decide between the moose & the wildflowers-but I must vote for the wildflowers. The flowers together with the walker just gave me such a feeling of peacefullness. I could just imagine it being me. I loved it & hope it wins.Smile

Since my girlfriend likes wildflowers, I will have to vote for the minnick poster, even though I am a private pilot and like the float plane poster.

I hear what everyone else is saying and I can't help but pull for the underdog or moose..... The moose has my vote

If I had a choice of picking just one, I would have to say  the moose does it for me. It captures the outdoors, earthy, strong, and exciting to see.

I guess since my dog idea isn't one of the choices - I am voting for the flowers.

All are great! I very much like the moose one as it reminds me of Canadian Fishing Trips.

I would like to vote for the Wildflowers poster.  I think it is a little different from the other posters we have seen but still within the spirit of Redwood Creek.  When I try to vote I get an error message.  I will keep trying.
